"Sherry's background will bring scientific literacy, a servant's heart, and small business savvy to the city council's table for the benefit of all the Stephenville citizens."
Note: This biography was written by family. You'll forgive us if we are a little proud of our daughter/sister/mother/grandmother:
Sherry Zachery was born in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1954, on the base where her father was stationed during and after the Korean War. Her father Jim, a rocket scientist, worked on missile projects in a variety of locations, so she and her three sisters led a paripatetic life moving all over the United States. She lived in New York, Florida, Washington, and several other states, but, no matter the locale, sought out every opportunity she could find to be around horses.
Books, science, and rock hounding were her other hobbies, but she became a full time wild west cowgirl when, while living in Utah, she was given a rifle and a beautiful “Indian pony” colt...but no saddle (which gave her the unintended, added gift of learning how to “stick like velcro” to any cayuse).
In the years to come, she would spend every spare minute exploring the canyon, racing her sisters and their horses in the arroyo, or competing in gymkhanas on her beloved, scrappy stallion.
She attended college in New Mexico and earned a degree in Radiologic Technology, married her childhood sweetheart, and had a daughter.

Sherry, a greyed-out Buckshot, and finally, a saddle. |
She attended college in New Mexico and earned a degree in Radiologic Technology, married her childhood sweetheart, and had a daughter.
Upon traveling to Texas for the first time, she fell in love with the state. Sherry and her young family moved to Ft Worth shortly thereafter. Sherry and her husband had dreamed of opening up a restaurant, so when the opportunity arose, they moved to Stephenville, a charming town with an Amish community and lots of room to grow...a perfect place to raise their daughter as well as start up a business (It was also a nice spot to give a very old and very blind Buckshot his well-earned retirement as an adored pasture pet). They opened Santa Fe County Taco Company and were fortunate to quickly see success thanks to their many great customers.
Having a bit of free time once again, Sherry enrolled at Tarleton, took geology, and was one of only two students to complete its now-defunct Russian language program.
After a sudden, heartbreaking divorce, Sherry overnight became a single parent and sole manager/owner of the restaurant. Life changed and dreams were tabled, but she raised a beautiful, smart daughter (now a happily-married physics and Latin teacher), and turned the restaurant into a successful enterprise that recently celebrated 28 years of business. She has navigated through local growing pains, national economic downturns, and fierce chain competition, all with a balanced budget and no short cuts on food quality or safety.
Sherry's background will bring scientific literacy, a servant's heart, and retail business savvy to the city council's table for the benefit of all Stephenville citizens. She respects how hard it is to earn those same tax dollars at times so liberally spent by the government. She
is knowledgeable on science issues, business workings and concerns, and much more. That she can ride like the wind and shoot the wing off a gnat are skills we personally find awesome but are probably not germane to the city council race.
(And from Sarah: I love you, Mom. As my boys say, you really are "the most interesting woman in the world.")
